Ana Rita Teodoro creates tableaux vivants (living pictures) where songs are born from a voice that escapes her lips. Assombro uses dance and the revival of traditional Portuguese songs in an attempt to make sense of the ghosts that haunt us. By invoking them, listening to them and looking for any sign of transgression, Ana realized that these songs express the female condition. The songs were an emancipation of sorts for these women who were questioning and satirizing their own circumstances.
