Carte blanche - Ensemble Rue du Nord

Mariachi experiments halfway between improvised music and noise. A minimal amount of devices are used: a guitar, an effects pedal and an amp. In studying The focus lies on gestures when studying the instrument: how it resonates, what its limits are, its extensions, its impurities, finding the nooks and crannies that emit sound. Does one go with or against the instrument? Does one restrain it or let it unleash its sound? Do we cradle it or do we veer towards assaulting it? What all this creates is a mish mash of feedback, crackling, shorts, impacts, harmonics, screeches, spills… and inadvertent notes and chords that are almost perfect.
